Welcome to our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page. If you don't see your question or concern addressed here, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to get back with you.

Q: Do you have a limitation on the number of children you can care for at one time?

A: I have cared for as many as six kiddos at one time all by myself. Depending on the ages of the kids, the length of the session, and any other extenuating factors we have the option to have additional adults as needed.

Q: What is your general availability during our stay?

A: All bookings are on a first come, first served basis. We have recently received a number of requests for reservations many months ahead of time. While we may have the flexibility to arrange for babysitting close to, or even during your visit, the sooner you are able to book, the earlier you will have the peace of mind that you'll have the free time you'd like.

Q: Could you please give me a brief description of your childcare experience?

A: I am a pediatric physical therapist and have 30 years experience in that field, so I have worked with kids for a long time. I also have two kids of my own, aged 21 and 22. I have volunteered for numerous child based charities both here in the VIs and stateside. Because I am a therapist, I have been background checked.

Q: What is your overall childcare philosophy?

A: I believe in keeping kids busy with fun and educational activities. I try to keep the kids on the schedule that the parents request as close as possible.

Q: Are you licensed/certified to provide First Aid, CPR, etc?

A: Yes, and background checked/fingerprinted as well.

Q: How do you handle discipline issues and separation anxiety?

A: I believe in discussion of consequences. Such as, "If you hit again, we won't be able to finish our activity right now!" I do believe in time out, but have never had to use it. I try very hard to take the child away from the reason the behavior is coming up.

As for separation anxiety, I am honest with the kiddos. I tell them I know they are sad because momma or daddy has left, but that they return. I will hold them or distract them with toys, activities, games, etc. I have had many parents say their little ones are going to cry but it truly happens very infrequently. The kids that are clingy to Mom and Dad prior to them leaving are usually calm within three to five minutes after they've left.

Q: I have read about the various activities you will do with children.  Do we need to give you an idea of which activities we prefer, or do you come prepared for anything?

A: The only activity I need parents to tell me about in advance is baking so that I can ensure we will have what we need ( those supplies would either need to be attained in advance or I can be reimbursed for getting them ). I bring all the rest of the stuff for age appropriate play etc. I have an IPad with all types of educational games for all ages which we only use if the parents say it's okay.

Q: Would there be any problem transporting the children to activities outside our rental?

A: I cannot transport the children. It is a liability issue.

Q: What is your hourly rate?

A: The base rate for one child is $20/hour. Additional children are $5/hour more. If a second adult sitter is required that is an additional $20/hour. There are some locations that we service that, due to the time and cost of commuting, may incur a surcharge.

Q: For long jobs, what are your meal expectations?  What kind of food would you want to be available?  Do you take children out to eat, and if so, is that included in your rate?

A: I typically will eat some of what the kids are having for lunch. I have, on occasion with parent permission ( and with the parents paying for the kids ) gone out to eat but that is only possible with limited number of kids and the site being in close proximity to appropriate eating establishments.

Q: Do you have some references available that you could provide?

A: Please see the Testimonials page on this site for comments on our services from recent clients. If you would prefer to speak directly to a former client, contact us and we will happily put you in touch with someone.

Q: Do you have baby equipment/supplies that we can rent or buy?

A: We come equipped with age appropriate supplies to help keep the children active and entertained for the duration of the babysitting sessions. For items such as car seats, strollers, pack-and-play, and much more, we are happy to recommend our friends at Island Baby. Please see their web site at: https://islandbabyvi.com/

Q: Anything else you'd like to add?

A: My passion for the last thirty years has been children. Whether they be my own, my therapy kids, or my babysitting kids - I ultimately want them to have a wonderful experience. Two quotes I have gotten from parents that I think sums things up are "she is not like your other babysitters who just sit around" and "the kids said their babysitting day was the best day of their vacation". I cannot imagine a higher compliment since St. John is so spectacular!
